Hoyt McGarity, Rob Cowan Take Fifth Coppinwood Invitational

Goodwood, ON (July 25, 2011) - Canadian Tour professional Hoyt McGarity won the fifth annual Coppinwood Invitational at Coppinwood Golf Club, while Waterloo, ON resident Rob Cowan took the low amateur honours at the 18-hole tournament held today. The tournament, which saw 84 golfers tee it up at Coppinwood, a Tom Fazio design that is one of the most prestigious private clubs in Canada, also raised $7,500 for the National Golf in Schools program that is designed to introduce the game to elementary school children.

On the amateur side, Cowan defeated Oshawa’s James Krantz in a one-hole playoff to take the title of top non-professional. Cowan and Krantz both posted an even-par 72 during the round. “I hit the ball solidly all day, only missing two fairways and a couple of greens,” Cowan said after his round. “I’m really looking forward to returning to Coppinwood for the Canadian Mid-Amateur in September.”
